God Is Bigger: Lessons From My Personal Storm

Life often throws challenges our way—fear, uncertainty, pain—but through it all, one truth remains: God is bigger than our troubles. No matter what we face, He is greater, stronger, and more powerful than any obstacle in our path.

God Is a Big God

When life gets hard and challenging, I like to remind myself of how big God really is. For me, I love to look out at the night sky and into the stars. Ever since I was little, I've always been fascinated by space and how vast the universe is. The galaxy we live in, The Milky Way, is enormous. We live in a solar system within this giant galaxy, which is home to around 100 billion stars. We're just one planet circling one of those stars. The Milky Way is so wide that traveling at the speed of light (186,000 miles per second, which we can't do) would take us around 100,000 years to fully cross it 🤯.

And it gets even bigger—there are an estimated 200 billion to 2 trillion galaxies in the known universe. WOAH!

Why are you telling me this, Kevin?
Because we serve a God who created it all.

  • "The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And the expanse [of heaven] is declaring the work of His hands."Psalm 19:1 (AMP)

  • "Lift up your eyes on high and see who has created these heavenly bodies, the One who brings out their host by number. He calls them all by name; because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power, not one is missing."Isaiah 40:26 (AMP)

When we start comparing the things we go through to how big the God we serve is, our problems don't really seem so big anymore.

Holding Onto Faith in the Storm

Life has a way of testing our faith. There have been times when I prayed for answers and felt like I was met with silence. Moments when fear crept in, and I wondered if God was really there, listening. Maybe you’ve felt that too—those nights when doubt whispers louder than truth, when the weight of your circumstances makes you question everything you believe.

I remember praying, asking God to use me in a greater way. Not long after, I was hit by a truck while riding a mini motorcycle. The impact was devastating. The doctors gave me a 30% chance to live. A 50% chance of keeping my leg. And even if I did, they said I had only a 50% chance of ever walking normally again.

I was in shock. One moment, life felt normal; the next, everything changed. Fear, anger, and doubt hit me all at once. I felt helpless.

But in that place of uncertainty, I turned to God. I began to pray and seek Him—not just for healing, but for peace. And as I trusted Him, my heart and mind began to shift. My fears were replaced with faith. My despair was met with a deep, unexplainable peace.

It was then that I experienced the truth of Jeremiah 29:12-14 firsthand:

  • "Then you will call on Me and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear [your voice] and I will listen to you. Then [with a deep longing] you will seek Me and require Me [as a vital necessity] and [you will] find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’ says the Lord, ‘and I will restore your fortunes and I will [free you and] gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you,’ says the Lord, ‘and I will bring you back to the place from where I sent you into exile.’"jeremiah 29:12-14 (AMP)

I realized that no matter the outcome, I was in God’s hands. Whether I walked again or not, He was still good. Whether I lived or died, He was still in control. The same God who breathed life into dust (Genesis 2:7) had the power to breathe life into my situation.

And He did.

Step by step, day by day, I saw His hand at work. Not only did I survive, but I kept my leg—and I learned to walk again. God not only heard my prayers; He answered them in ways I never expected.

Maybe you’re in the middle of your own storm right now. Maybe you feel like God is distant, like your prayers are bouncing off the walls. But He is listening. He promises that when you seek Him, you will find Him. When you call on Him, He will answer.

He is bigger than the storm you're facing. Keep holding on.

Closing Out: A Faith That Endures

Through every trial, every moment of doubt, and every storm I’ve faced, one thing has remained constant—God is faithful. He doesn’t promise a life without hardships, but He does promise to be with us in the midst of them. And when we truly seek Him, we will find Him.

I don’t know what you’re going through right now. Maybe you feel overwhelmed, lost, or unsure of what’s next. Maybe you're questioning if God sees you, if He hears your prayers. Let me encourage you—He does. He hasn’t forgotten you, and He never will.

Whatever you're facing, trust that God is still bigger. Just like He carried me through my storm, He will carry you through yours. You may not see the outcome yet, but you can rest in the truth that He is in control, and He is working all things for your good (Romans 8:28).

I want to challenge you to seek God with your whole heart. Instead of just searching for solutions to our problems, let's start seeking Jesus Himself. Rather than telling God how big our problems are, let’s start telling our problems how big our God is.
